Donegal TD claims inadequate support for fishermen is forcing many to decommission vessels

A Donegal TD is accusing the Minister for Agriculture of leaving fishermen in the north west with no choice other than to accept the offer to decommission their vessels.

Donegal TD Pádraig Mac Lochlainn says despite instructions from Europe the Irish Government have failed to provide any assistance to fishermen to cover the rising costs of fuel.

The Sinn Fein Spokesperson on Fisheries has also urged Minister McConalogue to fight for a greater share of fish from Irish fishing waters to be allocated to Irish Fishermen.

Speaking to Ocean FM news Deputy Mac Lochlainn says it’s frustrating for those in the fishing industry here to be still waiting for supports while subsidies are being paid in other European countries
