A multi-agency operation has led to the capture of a very unusual suspect that was being a bit of a ham in Donegal Town.
Volunteers from Donegal Animals in Need along with local Gardai were called in recent days to assist in the rescue of a black pig which was spotted running loose near the local Health Centre.
The operation initially began with trying to entice the pig to a safer area with food as he was quite close to a busy main road.
When this failed, a humane trap was set up in a bid to try and catch him however, in a twist in the tail, they ended up catching a ‘fed-up’ looking cat instead.
Due to the proximity to traffic, further reinforcements had to be brought in, with the Gardaí, the ISPCA, Bluestack Vets, Old Church Vets and Killian McLaughlin of Wild Ireland, all joining in the endeavour.
After trying several different ways to secure the pig, a dart gun had to be used to sedate him.
The pig was then transported safely into the care of the ISPCA.
Quite the ordeal to bring home the bacon…
