Argos to close Sligo store for final time today

The Argos store in Sligo is close permanently from 5pm this evening.

All 30 remaining outlets in the Republic of Ireland are to shut their doors for the final time today, resulting in over 500 employees losing their jobs.

In January, Argos’ parent company Sainsbury’s announced a plan to close the stores as part of a wider group plan to focus its business on food.

The retailer said it had arrived at the decision to leave the Republic of Ireland following a long period of careful consideration and a thorough review of its business and operations in the country.

The chain has been operating in the Republic of Ireland for 27 years.

It’s understood that stores in Northern Ireland will not be affected by the move.
