Roscommon GAA has ‘wrong sheep’ on county crest

Roscommon County Board is considering updating its GAA crest after discovering the emblem features the wrong breed of sheep.

The Sunday Independent reports that both Roscommon GAA and Roscommon County Council have been asked by breeders to check whether they’ve been using the correct image of the ‘Roscommon sheep’ following a motion at a local council meeting.

It’s understood Roscommon GAA Chairperson Brian Carroll has sought advice from the Council on how they should go about removing the ‘rogue’ black-and-white’ headed sheep from its crest.

The Roscommon sheep is one of only two native Irish breeds of sheep, the other being the Cladóir.

The Irish Rare Breeds Society is among those who have been working to preserve the breed, which has a white face and a heavy wavy fleece.
