Sligo Airport moves to clarify plans for visiting aircraft during Sligo Airshow

Sligo Airport has moved to clarify plans for visiting aircraft during the Sligo Airshow event next month.

Due to apron congestion, a difficult decision has been made to not accept any visiting aircraft during the event.

In a statement, management say that the aircraft taking part in the show will be taking off and landing at Sligo airport and therefore will require to be parked on the apron.

This will leave the airport without any parking space for private pilots to park their aircraft, leaving the facility with the difficult decision to not accept any additional aircraft.

Parking on the grass is restricted as there are obstacles such as the DME hut and weather station on the western side of the apron.

While the eastern side must be left vacant for Rescue 118 to operate.

This is Sligo Airport’s first year of hosting an air show of this size and management say that all involved are trying their very best to make it a thriving success.

Management has also given reassurances that an excellent lineup of aircraft will be on display, performing in the skies over Strandhill.

The event is taking place over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
