Sligo RNLI rescue three people in difficulty off Inishmurray

Shortly after 2pm on Sunday, Sligo Bay RNLI’s volunteer crew were requested to respond to reports of three people in difficulty off Inishmurray Island, four miles off the coast where their boat had experienced engine failure.

The boat with three people onboard had earlier left from Mullaghmore Harbour on a fishing trip.

However, during their trip, the boat experienced engine.

Following an assesement at the scene, it was decided to take all three people aboard the lifeboat.

The RNLI crew then set up a tow with the casualty vessel and brought them back to Mullaghmore Harbour.

Once all were safely ashore and the boat was tied up, the crew then made their way back to Sligo Bay Lifeboat Station arriving back to the station at 4pm.

A spokesperson for Sligo Bay RNLI Lifeboat said: ‘Thankfully the outcome was successful. All three people were wearing lifejackets and had a means of communication’.
