With the enhanced Defective Concrete Blocks (DCB) Grant Scheme commencing last week, Donegal TD and the Minister for Minister for Agriculture, Food and Marine Charlie McConalogue has asked the Donegal County Council Mica Committee to meet.
The minister has said that urgency is required in approving applicants for the new Defective Concrete Blocks Scheme will fall well short of 100% redress for many impacted homeowners impacted by mica or pyrite.
This scheme will provide financial support to affected homeowners in counties Donegal, Mayo, Limerick and Clare whose dwelling had been damaged by the use of defective concrete blocks in its construction.
Grants of up to €420,000 are available for affected homeowners depending on the works required under the scheme.
Donegal County Council have around 850 applications on hand for whom they have already given a remediation approval and are charged with transitioning on to the new scheme and seeing through to completion.
These homes represent the worst affected and most immediate priorities for remediation.
Deputy McConalogue says he strongly believes that the new Defective Concrete Blocks Scheme is a very strong one and will serve home owners well if they can be transitioned on to it promptly.
“I have requested a Donegal County Council Mica Committee meeting so that committee members can work closely with the County Council Executive to ensure that the necessary steps are taken to expedite all returned applications.”
