Minster for Environment says councils to receive funding to meet climate targets

The Minister for the Environment, Eamon Ryan TD, has confirmed funding of €2.97 million to support the Climate Action Regional Office (CARO) in the north-west region over the next six years.

In a bid to meet climate targets, the country has been split into four CAROs, with a regional structure designed to ensure that the local authorities share similar characteristics and climate risks.

The Atlantic Seaboard North CARO coordinates the delivery of climate action across the counties of Donegal, Galway, Mayo and Sligo.

Leitrim County Council has been placed among the Eastern and Midlands region, along with 16 other local authorities, and will be led by both Kildare and Kilkenny County Councils.

€12 million in total is being allocated to Ireland’s four CAROs for the period 2023-2029.
