Probe into large fish kill in Donegal

The Environmental Protection Agency has confirmed that it is liaising with Donegal County Council and the Loughs Agency over a large fish kill in Donegal.

A 2km stretch of a tributary of the River Finn, between Castlefin and Ballybofey, has been affected by a spill from what is believed to be a commercial premises.

Around a thousand fish including salmon, trout and eels have been taken from the water on a nursery stream known locally as the ‘Creamery Burn’.

EPA staff from the Office of Environmental Enforcement attended the site yesterday to investigate the incident and to identify what corrective actions need to be taken.
