A Sligo residential centre for older people has been found to be substantially compliant when it comes to a number of regulations by the health watchdog.
Summerville Nursing Home, located in Strandhill was one of 49 designated centres inspected in June of this year, the details of which have been published today.
Summerville Nursing Home is a purpose-built privately run nursing home with capacity to accommodate 47 residents requiring long-term care.
The inspection on June 14th was unannounced.
All residents had appropriate access to GPs from local practices, allied health professionals and specialist medical and nursing services.
A defined management structure was found to be in place at the centre that identifies the line of authority and accountability.
Taking into account the size and layout of the designated centre, there were insufficient cleaning staff on duty to ensure that appropriate cleaning and disinfection procedure were completed to a good standard on Sundays.
The provider was found to provide appropriate care and comfort for those residents who were approaching their end of life.
Staff spoken with were found to be knowledgeable about various care interventions that were required to support residents.
Since the inspection, the provider has made several improvements in place including extra cleaning staff to support the center at weekends, this will ensure appropriate cleaning and disinfection and maintain for IPC standards.
