Former Tourlestrane footballer and manager Eamonn O’Hara believes his home club haven’t got the recognition they deserve for their record-breaking senior club championship run in Sligo, which came to an end last Saturday when they lost to Drumcliffe/Rosses Point at Markeivicz Park by 1-8 to 0-8.
The defeat saw the south Sligo club eliminated from this year’s championship, and brought a 46-match unbeaten senior championship run, stretching back to 2015, to an end.
During that time, the team won seven consecutive senior titles in Sligo – a feat never achieved before.
O’Hara, who co-managed Tourlestrane to five of that seven-in-a-row with Gerry McGowan, told Ocean FM Sport on Sunday that the local authorities should have honoured the team for their achievements.
Sligo County Council have clarified an invitation to the team for a Civic Reception was extended to the club in 2022, following their seven-in-a-row success, but has yet to be taken up by the club
The Council says that invitation to Tourlestrane is still there.
