A man in his 30s remains in Garda custody this afternoon after he barricaded himself inside a business in Ballina yesterday and threatened to injure himself.
Gardaí in Ballina responded to reports of a male brandishing a knife in a threatening manner in the Market Square area of the town at around 6pm yesterday evening.
After arriving on the scene, Gardaí followed the man and he proceeded to barricade himself inside a business nearby.
Nobody else was in the business premises at the time.
Gardaí said they had brought the incident to a conclusion and the man has been arrested and is currently being held in a Garda Station in County Mayo.
Gardai say that investigations are ongoing.
