Three hikers rescued from Benbulben

Three hikers have been rescued after getting into difficulty on Benbulben over the weekend.

The climbers were completing their day’s expedition, when they were caught out by rapidly descending darkness.

Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue Team were tasked to King’s Gully area on Benbulben Mountain on Saturday after the group rang the emergency services.

Several members of the Mountain Rescue Team ascended to the steep cliffs and located the benighted group about 8pm.

The climbers were assessed but were found to be uninjured and well-equipped for the weather before being short-roped to safe ground on the slopes and walked back down the mountain alongside the Mountain Rescue Team.
