Warning issued after local people fall victim to Eir scam

Gardai have issued a warning over a scam which a number of people locally have fallen victim to.

In some cases, a substantial amount of money has been taken as a result.

The scammer rings the victim, pretending to be from Eir, stating that their broadband isn’t working properly.

They then ask the victim to check their modem and while the various numbers from the back of the box are being given out, the scammers are able to access their online banking while the phone call is taking place.

Gardai are advising people to hang up and contact their provider.

If they are made aware that it is a scam, block the number.

Should someone discover that a sum of money has been taken, they are being asked to contact their bank and local Garda station.
