Crisis in General Consultant workforce at Letterkenny University Hospital



There’s said to be a major crisis in the general consultant workforce at Letterkenny University Hospital.

 

It’s estimated that almost 30% of consultants working there are non-permanent with many more on the cusp of retirement.

 

The issue was raised in the Dail this afternoon by Independent Donegal TD Thomas Pringle, who called for Letterkenny to be prioritised in a recommendation for a pilot programme which aims to counteract the ongoing recruitment issue.

 

Deputy Pringle says just throwing money at the health service isn’t going to work.

 

While responding on behalf of the Health Minister was Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien claimed that the spending budget and staffing levels have increased at the hospital:
