Concern over proximity of proposed wind farms to Leitrim homes



Concern has been expressed about the proximity of proposed wind farms to homes in Leitrim.

 

The Save Dough Mountain and Leitrim Wind Aware groups were among 20 groups that gathered outside the Dáil last week in protest.

 

The concern stems from out-of-date guidelines regarding how close wind farms can be to rural homes.

 

The turbines have almost doubled in size since the initial guidelines were introduced in 2006, with proposals currently in place for wind turbines standing at 185 metres on Dough Mountain, and 170 metres on Croagh Mountain outside Dromahair.

 

Taoiseach Simon Harris has said that new guidelines will be in place by 2024, but Sligo Leitrim Independent TD, Marian Harkin, says she will believe it when she sees it:
