Petition launched in Donegal Town over one way system works

A petition, calling on works to halt on the new one way system in Donegal Town, has been launched.

The petition, which has already garnered almost 160 signatures, is asking Donegal County Council to stop works until local concerns are heard.

In response to the introduction of Donegal Towns controversial One Way system, the Donegal Town Traffic Congestion & Improvement Committee have set up the petition.

In a statement, the committee says that after an open public meeting in Donegal Town which saw well over 100 local people voice their objections and concerns to the layout and issues arising from the revised “One Way System”, a letter was sent by registered post to Donegal Co Council stating that the attendees wanted work stopped until the council met with the small delegation formed from the meeting.

It’s since emerged that a letter was distributed to town residents yesterday, informing them road resurfacing work will begin next week.

The people of Donegal Town are said to be unhappy with the impact the layout is having on traffic congestion and parking.

The committee feel that the Council seem intent on pushing on so that no changes are possible.
