Local Election Candidate James Conway has case pushed back

Local Election Candidate James Conway has had his case pushed back until next Thursday June 6th.

The Irish Freedom Party candidate has been charged with causing criminal damage to a house in Enniscrone and appeared before Sligo District Court this morning.

Mr. Conway was arrested following the incident on Saturday, April 27th and is also charged with trespassing on the same date.

He previously appeared before a special sitting of Sligo District Court in late April, where he was charged with the two offences.

Following his appearance in court this morning, Mr. Conway, who is contesting the local elections in the Ballymote –Tubbercurry MD, made a brief speech on the steps of the courthouse.

Meanwhile, while the hearing was ongoing this morning, another local election candidate held a small demonstration outside the courthouse.

Independent candidate Diarmuid McConville was chanting against An Garda Siochana and refugees amongst other topics and attracted a small gathering.

Mr McConville has also been lending his support to fellow local election candidate James Conway, who is before the courts this morning.
