Cabinet role for Labour MP with strong Donegal roots

The man who has been credited with being the ‘driving force’ in the Labour Party’s British general election victory in the UK has strong Donegal roots.

Pat McFadden’s parents, originally from the townland of Dunmore, near Falcarragh made the move to Glasgow in the 1950s.

A former adviser to Tony Blair, Mr McFadden has represented the Wolverhampton South East constituency since 2005.

His new role of Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster is described as the highest ranking minister in the cabinet office, excluding the Prime Minister.

He is one 411 successful Labour Party candidates who recorded a landslide election victory which sees Keir Starmer become Prime Minister.

It is the worst Conservative result in terms of seats in history, with the party winning 121 seats.
