Leitrim community projects receive over €1 million in funding

Just over €1 million in funding has been awarded to support a number of community projects in Leitrim.

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, made the announcement this morning which includes 185 groups nationwide.

Among the projects in Leitrim receiving the grants are Bee Park Resource Centre Ltd in Manorhamilton, and Allen Gaels GAA Club in Drumshanbo.

Just over €80,000 will be given to upgrade the Bee Park Community Centre, and just over €200,000 will be provided to install new astro turf.

Elsewhere within the county, Carrigallen GAA and Health Club will be given €210,910  for attic conversion and disability access, Carrick-on-Shannon Tennis Club gets €208,600 for a clubhouse construction project, and Ballinamore Area Community Council Clg receives €357,877 to upgrade the sports complex.

Sligo-Leitrim TD Frank Feighan has welcomed the funding: “The Community Integration Fund is a great opportunity for local communities to review their
facilities including recreation and sporting clubs.

“There still is a further €1.1m to be allocated from the original allocation from Minister Humphreys of €2.2m for Co Leitrim. I understand that funds are targeted in communities who currently are hosting and have welcomed people from Ukraine and other countries.

“From representations I have received many communities feel that their local services are impacted in some cases, this is a further opportunity for communities who are not successful on this occasion to engage with Leitrim Co Council and consider opportunities now to look at projects within their village or parish that need upgrading.”
