Wins for Aughawillan & St Mary’s on opening night of Leitrim Championship

Masonite Division 1 league winners St Mary’s and Aughawillan both recorded round 1 wins on the opening night of the 2024 Leitrim Connacht Gold senior football championship on Friday.

St Mary’s edged out Fenagh/St Caillin’s in Fenagh on a final score of 3-8 to 0-14 – while Aughawillan had one point to spare against last year’s intermediate winners (0-14 to 0-13).

The 10 senior Leitrim clubs are under extra pressure this year – with three teams set to be relegated to intermediate football, as part of a restructuring of the adult men’s club championships in the county.

The plan is to reduce the senior championship to eight teams for the 2025 season.
