Three neglected donkeys rescued in Leitrim

Leitrim Animal Welfare has confirmed that the organisation rescued three “neglected” donkeys from the wild.

In a post on social media, the group say that alongside Hungry Horse Outside, they rescued the donkeys who were in poor condition and suffering from overgrown hooves.

They continue by saying the animals had no access to shelter and as such their hooves had not been maintained and they were malnourished.

Unlike horses, donkeys have feet adapted for dry, stony environments. In lush, wet pastures like those in Ireland, their feet can become soft, leading to painful foot diseases.

Proper hoof care is absolutely crucial for their health.
