Ballymote’s Brian Colsh wins World Rowing bronze



Ballymote’s Brian Colsh and his partner Adam Murphy (Cork) won a bronze medal for Ireland in the final of the men’s heavyweight double sculls at the World U23 Rowing Championships in Canada on Friday evening.

The race was won by Poland, with Australia second and Ireland third.

This was a fine performances by the Irish duo who had only been together a matter of weeks, in advance of these championships.

Colsh won gold for Ireland in this event in 2023 along with Belfast’s Konan Pazzaia.

Poland, who took silver behind Ireland 12 months ago, led from the start in this final – and were never caught.

Australia, who beat Ireland in Wednesday’s semi-final took silver with Ireland crossing the finish line in third.

It’s Ireland’s first medal of these World Championships in St Catharine’s, Canada, which includes the senior, junior and U23 categories.
