South Donegal supermarket set to close

Doherty’s XL shop in Carrick in south Donegal is set to close after eight years in business.

Friday will be the final day of business for the supermarket.

Owners Andrea and Dermot Doherty have cited the high rising costs of running a small business as the main factor behind the move.

In a statement, they also say the business can no longer compete with the bigger stores and the delivery vans in the area multiple times a week.

The Dohertys thanked all their customers over the last eight years and the 20 plus staff that they employed over that period.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Andrea Doherty of Doherty’s XL said there needs to be more supports for smaller businesses to compete with bigger chains.
