Sligo Care Centre receives glowing report from HIQA

A Designated Care Centre in Sligo has received a glowing report from health watchdog HIQA.

The latest round of reports, examining standards in 26 centres for people with disabilities around the country, have been published today.

Killeshin in Sligo currently houses 5 people with intellectual disabilities. The inspection was carried out on March 8th of this year, and the centre was found to be compliant with all regulations tested.

Within the report, the inspectors stated that it was clear that the residents living at this designated centre were enjoying a good quality life where their human rights were respected and they were supported to be active participants in the running of their home and to be involved in their communities.

The report also found that most residents had contact with their families and this was supported by the staff at the centre. This included telephone calls, family visits to the centre and visits home if appropriate.

Residents and their families were actively involved in the planned move to the new property and the transition was under ongoing review to ensure that it was working well.

Overall, the inspector found that Killeshin was a welcoming home with a warm relaxed atmosphere, where the residents were provided with a high quality, person-centred and rights based service and care.
