Leitrim is once again among the counties with the lowest housing starts in the country.
New figures for housing commencements have been released by the Department of Housing today.
The figures show that in Leitrim, construction has begun on just 51 homes in the first eight months of this year. This puts Leitrim bottom of the pile, after 83 in Longford, and 151 in Roscommon.
Commencement only began on two properties in Leitrim this August.
Only 52 homes were built in Leitrim in 2023, with the county set to surpass that this year.
In Sligo, construction has started on 349 homes from January to August so far this year, with 8 of those starting last month.
While in Donegal, there has been a significant rise, with 762 homes started so far in 2024. That represents a jump from 349 from the same time last year.
