IDF withdraws from position close to Irish troops

Israel’s decision to leave positions close to where Irish peacekeepers, including those from Finner camp are stationed has been described as a “positive development”.

Concern had previously been expressed over safety of Irish peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) amid heightened conflict in the region.

In an update this morning, the Defence Forces say the situation around UN Post 6-52 remained relatively calm overnight but there were clashes in other areas of the Irish sector.

Irish peacekeepers continue to monitor developments and are maintaining an independent and impartial stance.
