Man hospitalised following major Collooney incident



A major incident in Collooney has now ended.

There was significant disruption to the village for a number of hours today.

The Main Street of Collooney was sealed off for several hours this afternoon as emergency services, including a number of armed support units, Gardai and ambulance personnel attending the scene.

The alarm was raised after a man reportedly barricaded himself inside a van and produced equipment believed to be suspicious.

A major emergency operation ensued, with a stinger also placed across the road for a time.

Following several hours, the man was eventually apprehended and taken away via an ambulance.

No injuries have been reported.

Homes and businesses were not evacuated during the course of the incident but it caused significant disruption to the village and surrounding area this afternoon.

A Garda investigation is now underway.
