Delight is being expressed this morning as Sligo Rovers are to receive major funding for the redevelopment of the Showgrounds.
The Bit O’Red have been awarded 16.4 million euro by the Government from the Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund.
Attention will now turn to upgrading the facilities at the Showgrounds, with big plans afoot to convert the current ground into a state-of-the-art, 6,000 all-seater stadium, along with a whole host of other amenities to benefit the community.
It’s hoped the stadium will be ready for the club’s centenary year in 2028.
Speaking to Ocean FM News, Sligo Leitrim Fine Gael TD, Frank Feighan, has described it as a proud and historic day for the club.
