Government urged not to try & buy upcoming elections

The leader of the Labour Party has accused the Taoiseach of playing 'a dangerous game' with the public finances.

 

Speaking in the run up to Friday's local and European elections, Brendan Howlin is accusing Fine Gael of shamelessly trying to 'buy' the upcoming elections with the National Children's Hospital, broadband and tax cuts for the higher paid.

The Government is being urged to secure a 'golden share' in the the National Broadband Plan.

 

At present, the state won't own the six-billion-euro network when it's complete, even though it's investing three-billion euro in it.

Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice wants a number of safeguards to ensure taxpayers' money isn't wasted.
