The Chairman of the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association in Donegal says he is skeptical that Irish beef exports will increase to the United States as a result of a new approval this week.
Politicians have been quick to welcome the US approval of the unique high quality of Irish beef stating that it will promote the unique qualities with a view to increasing imports to the US.
Some of the qualities that will be highlighted include the more than 80% grass diet of irish cattle, full traceability and the absence of growth hormones and anti-biotics.
However, Malcolm Thompson, the head of the ICSFA in Donegal says while the idea is positive he is skeptical exports will increase to the US:
