Local election candidate raises concerns over comments made by Coillte Executive

A local election candidate in Leitrim has criticised comments made by a Coillte Executive.

A conference was recently held in Carrick on Shannon where Ciarán Fallon compared the Sitka Spruce as the 'friesan cow of trees.'

Concerns have been raised for a number of years on what sort of impact the non native species has to the local bio diversity with the Save Leitrim Group claiming that 50% of agricultural land in Leitrim is used for forestry.

Local Election Independent Candidate in Manorhamilton, Jamie Murphy, says that the comments come at a time when a large number of communities are concerned over the impact the species can have.
