Chris MacManus is well known for his community and political activism, having
proudly represented his wider Sligo community as a councillor since 1999, and the
greater Northwest as an MEP in Brussels, highlighting decades of regional
imbalance and rural decline.
He has championed the Northwest as a member of many national and local
organisations and campaigns, including Palestinian Solidarity, Right2Water, and Yes
Equality.
Chris lives in Maugheraboy, Sligo.
As an MEP in Brussels, Chris MacManus was at the forefront in championing our
region, which has suffered decades of neglect under Fianna Fail and Fine Gael
Governments. As a TD for Sligo/Leitrim he will continue that work. Amongst Chris’
many priorities are:
Accelerated delivery and availability of new homes for the thousands of
families throughout County Sligo in need of affordable, Council and rental
houses and apartments. 100% redress scheme for all those affected by pyrite
or mica;
Reverse rural decline and protect our small & young farmers;
Prioritise local infrastructural needs in County Sligo such as substantial
upgrading of the N17 & N4 – projects which the FF/FG/Green Government
have stalled;
Develop the Western Rail Corridor project allowing rail travel from Sligo to
Knock Airport and Galway as part of an all-island rail network;
Priorities funding for increased staffing and services at Sligo University
Hospital.
