173 homeless across North West in February

173 people were homeless across the North West in February of this year.

The figures were confirmed in the monthly Homelessness Report, released by the Department of Housing today.

Sligo saw the highest amount of homeless people across the month of February, with 88. That was followed up by 70 in Donegal, and 15 in Leitrim.

143 of the North West's total were single adults, 114 of which were male and 59 female.

25 of those were aged between 18-24, 89 between ages 24-44, 52 between ages 45-64, and 7 who were 65 and over.

132 in the North West were Irish citizens.

There were 22 homeless families in the region throughout February, and 16 of those were single-parent families. There were 49 child dependents included.

The North West's total accounted for 2% of the national figure, which stands at 9,671.
