2018 will be the Year of Sligo Gaol.
It's to mark the bicentenary of the opening of the jail in 1818.
It's also a hundred years since Michael Collins was imprisoned there.
The building is now owned by Sligo County Council.
At yesterday's meeting of the council, Director of Services Dorothy Clarke says a document is now being compiled on how the gaol could be developed as a flagship project for the region.
