It's the end of an era today in two north west towns as bank branches close.

Ulster Bank will shut its outlets in Ballymote, Co Sligo, and in Ardara, Co Donegal.

The bank has been in operation in both towns for generations.

In Ardara, there is no other bank branch in the town.

In Ballymote, Bank of Ireland's traditional over-the-counter service is being replaced by an ‘advice and self-service’ system.

In Ardara, Damien Diver, of the local Centra outlet, was among those who campaigned for the retention of the Ulster Bank branch in the town.

He says campaigners did their best:

However, Mr Diver says the introduction of a mobile banking service and the presence of the post office in Ardara is some consolation:
