Today marks the 48th anniversary of missing Donegal schoolgirl Mary Boyle.

It remains Ireland's longest-running missing child case.

Six-year-old Mary Boyle vanished from Cashelard near Ballyshannon on March 18th, 1977.

At the time, she had been visiting her grandparents' home.

In 2018, detectives launched a renewed bid to solve the Republic's longest-running missing person case.
Gardaí at the time appealed to the public for assistance with the case.

On the day she disappeared, Mary had been following her uncle who had gone to a neighbour's house to return a ladder.

Half-way through the journey she told her uncle she was turning back and was never seen again.

A Garda investigation into her disappearance remains live.
