The early years sector is facing such a crisis that 80% of staff are plannig to leave the sector in the next 12 months according to a local SIPTU representative.
A new survey has also found 42% of staff are actively looking for a new job with low pay being given as the biggest reason people are considering their future.
Independent Sligo/Leitrim TD, Marian Harkin recently raised the issue in the Dail and called on Children's Minister Roderic O'Gorman to provide €75m for the sector in the coming budget.
