Abolition of Sligo Borough Council 'a retrograde step'

The abolition of the Sligo Borough Council and other town Councils has been described as a retrograde step.

The Councils were abolished in 2014 and replaced with Municipal Districts instead.

Speaking to Ocean FM news, Cllr Tom McSharry says the absence of it is being felt the most by various community groups.

He feels that there's a big appetite locally to see a return of town councils:
