Actions of SFPA create hard border – IFPEA

The Sea FIsheries Protection Authority has come under further fire its latest actions in the ongoing fish weighing debacle at Killybegs.

 

It’s been claimed that the authority is effectively creating a hard border on the island of Ireland due to a number of vessels turning away from the port and travelling to Derry for their catch to be weighed there.

It’s understood that the SFPA remains of the view that the landing took place outside of Ireland and has consequently imposed a sanction against an Irish fish processor.

 

Speaking from Brussels CEO of IFPEA Mr Brendan Byrne has condemned the move and says it will only add to tensions at the port:
