An agreement has been reached between Sligo and Leitrim County Councils on the advancement of the Sligo Leitrim North County Railway Greenway (SLNCR).
€1.5m has already been allocated to advance this project, with the greenway expected to boost spending in the region by €7m in its first year.

With the route running from Sligo to Enniskillen, it is one of three projects earmarked by the Taoiseach for funding for Shared Island projects.
Speaking to Ocean FM News, Councillor Declan Bree acknowledged the importance of the greenway to the region:
