The President of the Garda Representative Association is fearful that the latest statistics on assaults on Gardai will not help to entice people into the force.
It comes as the number of Gardai who were injured due to assaults on duty rose by 17 per cent last year.

Meanwhile this week, it was confirmed that just five new Gardai are to be stationed in the region after graduating from Templemore while other data shows that one in six Garda recruits are failing the fitness test required to complete their training.
