There has been almost 30 assaults on ambulance staff during the past two years in the West region, which includes Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim.
There were 20 assaults in the region in 2018 and 9 last year.
The 2018 figures were made up of 9 verbal assaults and 11 physical assaults.
Last year, ambulance staff endured 5 cases of verbal assault and 4 of a physical nature.
The figures were released under the Freedom of Information Act.
Tina Martin, cochairperson of the National Ambulance Service Representative Association, claims the problem is far worse than the statistics suggest:
She points to a survey of paramedics that found 68 per cent of them had been assaulted over a two-year period.
