Almost 40 people in the north west and west of the country were admitted to hospital for obesity issues last year.
Nationally, the figure is 207 with 26 of them children under the age of 16 - while 113 were over 45.
39 were seen in the Saolta University Healthcare Group, which includes hospitals in the west and north-west.
Susie Birney is the executive director for the Irish Coalition for People Living with Obesity - she says the condition has several impacts.
