Almost 900 organic farmers in north west in 2024

The number of farmers operating under an organic farming system in the north west will exceed almost 900 in 2024.

Figures show Donegal has the highest number of new organic farmers in the country.

138 farmers in Donegal have joined the organic farming scheme this year, bringing the total to 437 in the county.

In Sligo, 54 have joined the scheme, with 191 now in the county, while 43 have joined in Leitrim, which brings the total there to 264.

Nationally, there are 1,047 new farmers under the organic farming scheme which brings the total to 5,017.
