The annual hospital overcrowding figure has been broken with Sligo University Hospital one of the worst affected facilities this year.
Figures collated by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show that almost 7,980 patients went without a bed at Sligo University hospital so far in 2022.
It has been ranked as the fourth most overcrowded hospital in Ireland for this year.
Nationally, the total is 118,662 making it the worst year for hospital overcrowding on record.
624 patients are without a bed in Irish hospitals today, 30 of them in Sligo University Hospital and 25 in Letterkenny.
