Anti racist gathering taking place in Rooskey this afternoon

An anti-racist gathering is taking place in Rooskey, along the Leitrim/Roscommon border, this afternoon.

Organised by members of the Leitrim and Roscommon United Against Racism group, it's being held at the Shannon Key West Hotel which is the site of a recent suspected arson attack from 12.30pm until 2pm.

The group said on their Facebook page that they 'want an end to the Direct Provision system which incarcerates and isolates asylum seekers', and are against the way the system is implemented 'without consultation on small communities.'

The group further states that the 'existence of such a system cannot be used as an excuse for racism and arson.'

One of the organisers, Leah Doherty say the direct provision system is inhumane.
