The closure of the waiting room at the Collooney Railway station has been described as “another reduction in passenger service” by a local Councillor.
The waiting room was closed at the end of January by Irish Rail as a result of vandalism.
It's claimed a number of young adults used a powder fire extinguisher in the waiting room, broke the main component for the disabled access door into the building and it’s also believed they tried to set a fire in the toilet.
Gardaí are currently investigating the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact your local Garda station.
Sligo/Drumcliffe Sinn Fein councillor Thomas Healy is calling for safety and security measures to be put in place so vandalism like this can never happen again
