IT Sligo, along with GMIT and Letterkenny IT will today submit their application for Technological University Status.
The Minister with responsibility for Higher Education Simon Harris is expected appoint an international expert panel to examine the case for the proposed University prior to it being examined by the Higher Education Authority.
Sligo Leitrim Fianna Fail TD Marc Mac Sharry says the submission of the application should result in the North West having the highest level possible of third level education.
