Bank of Ireland says it is committed to rural areas and has defended its move to scale back some over the counter services this week as a measure to ensure it can keep branches open.
The bank has come in for criticism this week after it confirmed that people will no longer be able to do their banking business over the counter at 100 branches nationwide.
These include Bundoran, Killybegs, Ballymote, Drumshanbo, Manorhamilton and Tubbercurry.
The changes will come into effect from the start of August and it will leave just three full-time cash-service branches in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal and 8 five-day-a-week morning services.
Joann Hosey, Director, Bank of Ireland Connaught & Ulster has defended the bank's commitment to rural Ireland:

The bank is working with local churches to provide coins to local businesses who need that.
